				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Twice a year the UK sees changes to employment legislation in April and October.  Below are the ones organisations need to pay particular attention to;</p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">April 2012</span></strong></span></p>
<p><strong>• Qualifying period for unfair dismissal increases</strong><br />
6 April 2012, the qualifying period for employees to make an unfair dismissal claim will increase from one year’s service to two years service (however in some circumstances employees do not need a minimum service period).  The change applies only to employees who start their job on or after 6 April 2012.</p>
<p>•  <strong>Statutory maternity, paternity, adoption and sick pay increase</strong><br />
1 April 2012, the weekly rate of statutory maternity, paternity and adoption pay increases from £128.73 to £135.45.<br />
6 April 2012, statutory weekly sick pay will increase from £81.60 to £85.85.</p>
<p><strong>• Accident-reporting requirements change</strong><br />
6 April 2012, the required period of an employees incapacity following an injury caused by an accident at work, which triggers the employers requirement to report the accident will increase from more than three days to more than seven days. The deadline by which the employer must report the accident increases from 10 days to 15 days.</p>
<p><strong>• Employment tribunal procedure reformed</strong><br />
6 April 2012, employment judges hearing some cases without lay panel members, increases in costs awards and deposit orders, and witness statements being taken as read.</p>
<p><strong>• Additional bank holiday</strong><br />
There will be an additional bank holiday on Tuesday 5 June to mark The Queen&#8217;s Diamond Jubilee. The late May bank holiday will be moved to Monday 4 June to create a long weekend.</p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">October 2012</span></strong></span></p>
<p><strong>• </strong><strong>Pensions auto-enrolment</strong><br />
From October 2012, employers will be required to auto-enroll eligible employees into a workplace pension scheme.  The date from which employers must auto-enroll employees is based on the number of employees in their PAYE scheme on 1 April 2012.</p>
<p><strong>• </strong><strong>National Minimum Wage rates</strong><br />
1 October, the following national minimum wage rates will increase;<br />
The standard adult rate to £6.19<br />
The apprentice rate to £2.65<br />
